Tamil AfrikaWebpage for Tamils in South Africa and the Tamil DiasporaThis web page is in the formative stages of development. Initially it will run in support of the web page Tamil Information and Cultural Centre that operates under the patronage of the Natal Tamil Vedic Society. The rationale behind a second web page is simple : an independent page can be more creative and responsive as a reader driven medium. We firmly subscribe to the principle that everyone is equal and that there is unity in cultural and religious diversity. These principles are vital for sustained peace and harmony. The writings of ancient Tamil saints, savants and seers reflect these principles that will be published from time to time.
In addition to feature articles on customs, rituals, explanations of symbols and icons in the Tamil religion space will be accorded to reviews of articles from other web pages, book reviews, current events, highlights from the Tamil Diaspora, recipes from Africa and articles by South African writers. MissionTO BECOME THE CATALYST IN PROMOTING PEACE AND HARMONY AMONGST ALL.
ProfileI am a retired educationist and community activist. Born and brought up in Durban (east coast), South Africa and educated here and abroad. My specialist fields are media management and information communication technologies in education and training. My interest in the Tamil culture began several years ago when I delved into the metaphysical aspects of our religion and philosophy. The paucity in answers and the absence of literature locally prompted me to design and launch the first Tamil Information and Cultural Centre that was hosted and financially supported by the oldest organization in KwaZulu Natal, The Natal Tamil Vedic Society. Three years of research into Tamil language and culture and the wealth of valuable information that is now available prompted me to examine other means of enriching the knowledge of others.
